LABOUR Party members have backed Lancashire Central Euro MP Mark Hendrick to stand in next year's historic European Parliament elections.
June's elections will be the first national poll in Britain under proportional representation and 93 per cent of the area's party members voted for Mark to stand.
Sitting MEP Mark Hendrick has just been elected economic spokesman for the European Parliament's dominant socialist group.
He said: "I am confident that I can continue to support and represent the people of Lancashire in the run-up to the next election and beyond as well."
Burnley politicians Carole Galbraith and Coun Tony Martin were also selected in the ballot as additional candidates.
They will now join the national pool of contenders and may contest a seat elsewhere in the country.
