FOUR people will lose their jobs when Blackburn's AA shop closes as part of a company streamlining programme.

The AA has decided to close all its 142 high street shops with the loss of 850 jobs.

Company bosses say the move is due to the fact that most AA customers now communicate with the firm by phone.

Business currently conducted through the shops will be transferred over the next 12 months and consultations with employees have already begun.

Staff at the Blackburn shop on Church Street, the only one left in East Lancashire, said they weren't allowed to comment about the shop closure or job losses.

A spokeswoman for the AA said: "This is a sad day for us. There is one full-time member of staff and three part-time at Blackburn. We told them on Tuesday about the closures and we will be talking to them about the future."

The company has also sold its Home Assistance section to Aon Risk Services, and has ended its partnership with Eagle Star by buying out the insurance giant's share of their underwriting joint venture.
