I AM writing a short biography about my great uncle, Private George Henry Bagshaw, a soldier of the 1/4th Battalion, Duke of Wellington's Regiment (West Riding), who died of wounds on May 17, 1918, and is buried in the Beinvillers Military Cemetery, some 11 miles to the south west of Arras.
My grandmother (his sister) thinks that he died when a hospital was bombed, but the only record I can find of such an incident occured at Etaples, two days after his death.
Among the medical units in the area at the time were the 1/2nd East Lancashire Field Ambulance RAMC and I would be most grateful to hear from any readers who may have information about that unit at about that time.
