SIR, - Further to the letter regarding Leylandii trees (Citizen, July 9), I find that as the majority are planted as hedges, 6-7ft is tall enough for them to grow.
One tree of 15 ft may be permitted, but when you are faced with a wall of trees neighbouring gardens suffer from a lack of light.
This applies to other trees too and many people do not realise that people who suffer from Sun Affective Disorder can become quite depressed by lack of light and sunshine, apart from not having enough light for their own crops.
Where we live in built-up areas we must consider our neighbours and keep our trees from overhanging their property and keep the height down.

Lancaster and Wyre MP Hilton Dawson has called for a public debate over the thorny issue of Leylandii hedges. The move comes as the Government considers calls for curbs on the use of Leylandii conifers.
Mr Dawson wants constituents to write to him with their views on the topic. Letters should be sent to Hilton Dawson at the House of Commons, London SW1A OAA.
