A CHANCE of a starring role in the movies is on offer to young miscreants in Layton.

For Layton community bobby PC John Crystal is now armed with a video camera to capture under-age drinkers or rowdies on film.

PC Crystal managed to persuade Layton biscuit manufacturers Horizon to donate a £530 Sony Handicam to the battle against crime.

"I'll be using it to video juvenile nuisances, such as kids causing problems in hot-spot areas or off-licences selling alcohol to kids under age," said PC Crystal,

"In the first instance it could be used as proof to parents, who often don't believe their child could be involved in such activities until they see it with their own eyes.

"This way we can go round and say 'this is what your kid has been doing' and hopefully they will act upon it themselves.

"If the problem persists, or gets worse, then it could be used as evidence in court."

PC Crystal came up with the idea after encountering difficulties combating juvenile nuisances without hard evidence to identify who they were.

This is his second success in persuading local firms to sponsor equipment - he was recently presented with a pedal cycle by the Bike Shop.
