A NEW taxi rank to help promote safer transport is being set up at Bury Interchange.

And local people are being urged to use it or run the risk of losing it.

The five-space rank will be created at the end of August and run for a trial period, with the number of passengers being monitored.

It will be situated next to the car drop-off point by the bus station entrance and the escalators to the Metrolink platforms.

Regional transport bosses say taxis have a crucial part to play in the integrated transport policy they are drawing up.

They think that the new rank will not only improve transport generally but make passengers feel safer at night by not having to walk far to the station.
