Valerie Cowan Surfs the Net

URI Geller, spoon-bender extraordinaire, might rely on his out-of-this-world powers to make him a living.

But he is equally at home in cyberspace.

Geller, who writes an Internet column for a national newspaper, has his own website, called Uri Geller's Interactive Psychic City.

It's got details of how he can help your company strike gold (or whatever it is you're considering digging underground for) and an online quiz.

There's also information on an experiment he ran a couple of years ago online, to see if the collective mindpower of Net users visiting his site could bend a spoon locked in a safe. It failed.

Gnome sweet gnome!

GNOMES don't just sit in your garden, keeping guard over fish ponds or bedding plants.

Apparently they have lives of their own, lived away from the gaze of humans - at least according to the creator of the Official Gnomes Website. There's a history of the little creatures with the big hearts and details of their alleged nocturnal activities. Apparently the male gnome considers marriage when he reaches about 100 (although a small number do remain single) and like small, bearded Dr Dolittles, they can communicate with the animal kingdom.

King of the Coasters

RICHARD Rodriguez was crowned King of the Coasters last week after spending a record-breaking 47 days riding on Blackpool's Big Dipper.

He would probably have enjoyed reading this website, called Rollercoasters - Inventing the Scream Machine, if only he could have taken a computer on the Big Dipper with him.

The site tells the history of rollercoasters from the earliest ones - sleds on man-made, ice-covered hills - to today's engineering masterpieces. I feel ill even watching other people ride a rollercoaster, so it came as a relief to learn that even Ron Toomer, who has invented some of the scariest rides in the world, can't go on them because he suffers from motion sickness!
