SCIENTISTS have investigated landfill sites around the UK, Belgium, France, Denmark and Italy which, they say, could be toxic time bombs.
They also called for a nationwide survey of thousands of domestic dumps which, according to them, "could be equally environmentally hazardous."
As the land behind the Post Office in Billington was given planning consent for development a few years ago, should not this now be withdrawn as this land was once a domestic tip and in the light of this new knowledge?
Surely, no development of any kind should take place until this site has been fully investigated as to whether or not any toxic waste was tipped in along with domestic waste, without the council at that time knowing. There must be no risk to people's lives, no matter how small, if it can be prevented.
