WEEKS after buying a £250,000 machine a printing firm has ordered another to cope with increasing demand.

Print finisher Turner & Earnshaw of Burnley has placed an order for a second specialist foil stamping machine taking its total investment to £500,000.

The machine is used for applications such as printing embossed lettering on packaging and greetings cards.

"The performance of the first machine and the accuracy of the work it produces made the decision to purchase the second machine a natural progression," said director Granville Turner.

"We have generated a significant increase in our share of die-cutting and foil stamping work which was previously unattainable due to limited capacity."

The machine will give the firm the ability to produce more than one million sheets a week, with a potential increase to more 1.5 million sheets if the firm goes ahead with plans to introduce a nightshift early next year.

Dimond Machinery Ltd, based in Blackburn, imports the specialist Chinese machines before adapting them at its Darwen engineering base.

The two firms are now working on a further tie-up.

"We are working closely with Dimond on a project that would enable us to offer a hologram facility," said Mr Turner.

"We are currently assessing the market for this type of product and look forward to making an announcement in the near future."
