EX-LEIGH RU prop David Gough has become a legend Down Under!
Watched by proud parents Colin and Anne, he was a guest player for the Australian Rugby Legends in their big match against the New Zealand Rugby Legends.
"It was a wonderful occasion," said Colin, on his return to Knowsley Drive, Leigh. "And I took David a can of Boddingtons to celebrate.
"He can't get it down in Australia. And it's one thing he misses."
The match, at Gardens Oval in Darwin, featured some of the Southern Hemisphere's greatest rugby players of the past few years.
Among the Aussies, who won the match 39-28, were Tony Melrose, Ray Price (who made his biggest mark in Rugby League) and Tom Lawton, while the All Blacks included Leicester Rutledge and Mark Donaldson, who each played 13 Tests in the late 70s, and Kieran Crowley.
Design engineer David, 34, who still plays Casuarina Straycats in the Northern Territories, was called up as a member of the Friends of Rugby group.
"It was a great honour for him to play and he had a good game," added Colin.
