A WILD August is in store for young daredevils.

On August 30 and 31 (12-4pm) an adventure has been organised in Astley Street Park.

Youngsters will be able to experience a ride on an aerial slide, go orienteering and look for clues in the foliage, shoot some archery or have a bouncing good time on the inflatable castle.

Other local activities include a Summer Action Club at Ashton Leisure Centre until August 28 (9am-4pm). Days out will be organised including trips to Camelot, Laser Quest and AMF bowl. Contact 01942-720826.

There will be running, rowing and pumping iron and more for 14- to 15-year-olds throughout August at the Profiles Fitness Suite at Ashton Leisure Centre.

August 16 (1-3pm) brings a Teddy Bears' Picnic in Lilford Park. Call the urban rangers on 01942-606881.

On August 18-20 (10.30am-3.30pm) there will be a New Deal Roadshow at Wigan and Leigh College and Leigh RLFC when the New Deal team showcase opportunities available to young unemployed between 18 and 24.
