HEYSHAM has been granted £400,000 by the European Union for a study investigating the possibility of building a freight railway terminal at the port.
Delighted Morecambe MP Geraldine Smith was told the good news that Heysham was to receive the cash after she had met up with European Union Transport chiefs.
But Heysham will have to fight with four other British ports for the proposed freight station who will also have feasibility studies paid for out of the grant.
At present lorries carry the freight through Morecambe and Lancaster causing traffic worries.
