FANS of Manchester City are going to Amsterdam for a Kinky weekend.

But members of Prestwich and Whitefield's MCFC Supporters' Association are not travelling 350 miles to sample the red light delights of the Dutch capital.

They are going to watch their hero and former Sky Blues favourite, Giorgi Kinkladze.

The die-hards are going to great lengths to forget the fact their team is now in Division Two by watching Gio - or Kinky, as he is also known - play for Ajax Amsterdam against PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch league this November.

Members making the trip will present a giant Gio flag to Ajax fans, a gesture to show that supporters of club sides can make friends across international boundaries.

Association chairman Don Price said: "The flag may also reinforce the point to Gio that there are no hard feelings towards him from the majority of City fans, in spite of the fact that he has left the club for a bigger stage!"

Loyal Blues fans have always been able to laugh at their own misfortune and, considering their recent history, have won the admiration of many rival fans for developing their sense of humour!

Don said: "City may not be in Europe, but at least the fans will be."
