A SEVEN-year-old Deepdale boy died after being hit by a car on Sunday (March 21).

Naeem Patel was in collision with the Ford Granada on St George's Road, yards away from his house, when he crossed the road from between parked cars.

He died of head injuries in Alder Hey Children's Hospital, Merseyside, on Tuesday.

He was crossing the road with his older brother, Soheb, when the accident occurred around 3pm.

Neighbours heard a bang and called for an ambulance.

Naeem was taken from Royal Preston Hospital to Alder Hey Children's Hospital, Merseyside, where his parents had been keeping a bedside vigil.

The driver of the Ford Granada, Andrew Preston from Fulwood, was treated for shock.

Residents said they had been calling for speed restrictions for years due to an increasing number of accidents on the road.
