AS a member of Hollins Conservation Group I regularly receive the group's newsletters.

In the December 1998 issue the chairman stated: "Our local councillors, Gordon Sharkey, Sylvia Mason and Jean Howcroft, are behind us in the campaign to prevent the loss of yet more green fields to the developers". Yet, in the March 1999 newsletter the chairman announced his intention to stand as an Environment and Wildlife council candidate. Is this a case of speaking with forked tongue?

I note also the comments of the leader of the Wildlife group, Dave Bentley, who implies that his candidates will only fight for conservation issues and leave other problems to other councillors. He must be living in a fool's paradise!

I support the view of councillors Jean Howcroft and Linda Harwood (Your Letters, March 5) that a dedicated councillor will represent ALL constituents, no matter what their problems are or the colour of their politics.
