PUPILS at Newton County Nursery School have been busy planting tree seeds in the school grounds - thanks to The Mersey Forest and North West Water.
The two organisations have donated special tree-growing kits and seeds to the school as part of the massive 'Trees of Time and Place' initiative, which aims to encourage everyone in Britain to plant a tree for the Millennium.
Head teacher, Steve Clark, said: "The nursery group's Gardening Club are using the kits to plant local seeds, which will eventually be transplanted into the grounds. It is very important for our youngsters to learn about their environment. Starting them young will help them to develop a respect for nature and appreciate their surroundings. And using the free kits to grow seeds has the obvious advantage of improving the school grounds.
