BUSINESSES in the Bowland area which have made efforts to go green are to be rewarded.
They will receive certificates under a scheme called Green Lantern - part of the European Union Leader II project which has been running in the Forest of Bowland since 1996.
Green Lantern aims to encourage the use of environmentally-friendly technology and environmental management practices in the tourism industry, to cut waste, minimise pollution and use energy more efficiently.
Fifteen businesses will receive awards for initiatives ranging from solar powered heating installations to water minimisation schemes.
Anthony Goldstone, chairman of the North West Tourist Board, will present the awards at the Gibbon Bridge Hotel, near Chipping, on Tuesday.
He said: "It is crucial we encourage more businesses in the tourism industry to identify and implement 'greener' practices.
"I am delighted to reward these businesses in the Bowland area for their commitment to safeguarding the environment for present and future generations."
