ONE of Lancashire's biggest employers has signed up for the New Deal scheme to help young jobless people.
The county council is to take part in the Government scheme which will mean some vacancies will be offered first to young people aged under 25 who have been unemployed for six months or more.
"Helping young people who are unemployed is a key objective of the Government's Welfare to Work programme and I am delighted that the council is now signing up under New Deal," said Frank McKenna, deputy leader of the council.
Each new person recruited under New Deal attracts a £60 a week payment to the employer for six months and £750 towards their training.
