STONYHURST College, arguably the champions of the North in seven-a-side rugby, with two major tournament wins this season, carried off the prized national title at Rosslyn Park when they won the largest schoolboy tournament in the world for the second time in four years.
Beaten semi-finalists last year, they gained their revenge by beating their 1998 conquerors, St John Fisher in a rousing final when they had to come from 12-0 down to win 17-12 after a superb match.
In a tournament of this quality, there are no easy matches, yet in a competition spanning two days, Stonyhurst played eight matches, scored 270 points and conceded only 58 against some of the UK's leading schools like Glantaf, Llandovery, Reigate GS and their final opponents, who were looking for a hat-trick of titles.
The team is coached by Simon Charles who also helped Stonyhurst win the competition in 1996.
