AN exciting new and innovative development has just been introduced by Bury Relate.

A pilot project has been started which offers relationship counselling to the Chinese community throughout Greater Manchester.

Working in conjunction with the Chinese Health Information Centre, the scheme is believed to be the first of its kind in the country.

Bury Relate manager Joyce Siddall commented: "At the moment, we are offering counselling on Thursday afternoons for a six-month trial period. But if there is sufficient demand, we will definitely be looking to extend the service."

She says relationship problems can affect anyone anywhere and Relate offers confidential counselling to people from a wide range of different nationalities and cultures.

Ms Siddall continued: "We are very fortunate in Bury to have Vivien Moss, a Chinese speaking counsellor, who was really keen to get this project off the ground."

Chinese Health Information Centre manager Shirley Lam said: "This is a really exciting development for the centre and the Chinese community in Greater Manchester.

"We know that the need for relationship counselling exists and we very much hope that the trial is successful."
