LEIGH gave new overseas player Tim O'Sullivan a warm welcome on his arrival from Australia.

But the weather didn't match that greeting. It rained!

His first match was the Liverpool Cup Competition final group game at Bolton, where the home side managed a respectable 169-7.

Chris Hall and Steve Duxbury kept the attack under control before Andy Mullaney's right arm drifters picked up three wickets.

On Sunday Leigh comfortably beat Alderley Edge in the Abbott Ale National Cup.

Andy Batterley displayed a fine range of quality shots in an impressive 52, then Mullaney (50 including two monster sixes) and skipper Tim McKiernan (34) rattled the score along. Edge began well but quickly fell away to Hall's super bowling, all out for 74 and 104 runs shy.

Leigh's league campaign begins this weekend with a home fixture against Northop Hall, then comes a trip to Carnforth for the first round of the Lancashire Cup.

Danny Carty's 2nd X1 have also progressed to the knockout stage of the Cup.
