LEIGH ATHLETIC were left kicking their heels on Saturday when their final league match of the season was called off.

Lymm were forced to postpone at the 11th hour.

Athletic U16s managed to get in two matches, both victories, to challenge for runners-up spot.

They beat Monton Ams 5-3 with goals from Higson 2, Burgess, MoM Parker and skipper Birchall.

They dominated Blackmoor, winning 8-3, with leading scorer Philips bagging a treble, including his 60th and Athletic's 150th goals of the season. MoM Burgess added two, while also on target were Ackers, Parker and Lindsay.

Athletic, with one league remaining, are looking ahead to the Cup Final on May 23 at Breightmet United when they face Manchester County Cup winners Swinton Boys.
