BLACKBURN Rovers' record signing Kevin Davies is in disgrace having been fined two weeks wages and dumped out of the squad for Sunday's final game at Newcastle by furious Ewood boss Brian Kidd.

Swiss midfielder Oumar Konde has been treated likewise with the manager cracking the disciplinary whip after the pair are believed to have been spotted drinking in a Preston nightclub, believed to be Tokyo Jo's, at two o'clock on Tuesday morning.

Kidd would not elaborate on what they had done, but stressed he had had no hesitation in imposing the maximum fine allowed.

And his actions are a clear warning to all the players that he will not tolerate indiscipline.

He said: "This is the first incident of its kind that has come to my notice and I am bitterly disappointed.

"I set high standards and this kind of thing will simply not be tolerated.

"But we will not get carried away by it, I hope it is an isolate incident.

"We have taken the appropriate action and no one has been left in any doubt as to where they stand or to my feelings."

Davies has had a miserable season since joining Rovers in a record-breaking £7.25 million deal from Southampton last summer.

He has suffered from illness and lack of form and has been unable to claim a regular place in the team.

Konde was one of former boss Roy Hodgson's last signings and has yet to make an impact on the first team squad.

Rovers fans claimed to have seen the two players drinking in the early hours of Tuesday morning - only the day before the crucial game against Manchester United which decided the club's fate in the relegation battle.

It is yet another which could now put a very big question mark over Davies' future at Ewood Park.
