MAY I express my thanks to the 283 voters of Redvales Ward who supported me in my attempt to become their Independent council representative. I would like to wish John Smith, the successful Labour candidate, every success and in doing so I would remind him that he now represents all the 8,925 registered voters in Redvales.

My concern is that of the 8,925 registered voters in Redvales only 2,147 could be bothered to vote, and that the ward is now represented by three Labour councillors, the most recently-elected living at the other side of the borough.

Though Labour lost two seats this time I am still of the opinion that they need stronger opposition and that their large majority on the council does not provide the proper balance of democratic control.
