I WONDER how many readers are aware of the T and R Sharples Charity established in 1928 to provide small annuities to elderly people who can show their legal entitlement to use either the surname Sharples or Hesmondhalgh.

To qualify, they must be over 60 years old by December in the year of application, live in the United Kingdom, and their total annual income must be below the qualifying level as determined by the board of trustees.

Application forms can be obtained by writing to the secretary at: T and R Sharples Charity, 44 Waverley Road, Astley Bridge, Bolton BL1 6NW.

WILLIAM HESMONDHALGH, Grasmere Close, Rishton.
