COWLEY'S rugby players are set for a ground-breaking tour to New Zealand.

They plan to travel there in 2001 to compete against their Kiwi counterparts in both codes.

And it's believed they are the first British school to undertake such a tour.

Cowley has a long tradition of tours and in the past its teams have travelled to Australia, South America, Canada and - most recently - to South Africa in 1993.

The initial plan is to play five matches in a three-week visit to New Zealand's North Island. About 25 pupils and six staff are expected to travel.

And the cost will be met by a combination of fund-raising and sponsorship, with the remainder (about £600) being paid by the pupils' families.

Anyone interested in backing the expedition should contact Colin Mercure at the school on 750607.
