A ROCKET landed in the town this week when a replica of one of the world's first steam locomotives arrived.
It will be full steam ahead at the East Lancs Railway this weekend when a replica of the famous George Stephenson's Rocket Steam Locomotive will be giving rides to visitors.
The Rocket, on loan to the ELR, is at the Bolton Street station. It is being filmed for a new Channel Four TV programme.
The ELR was granted permission from the National Railway Museum in York to operate the replica for visitors.
The Rocket was one of the world's first modern passenger steam engines and the replica will create history in Bury by travelling as it did 170 years ago.
The locomotive, which established a world record speed of 35 mph in 1829, will be operating all day Sunday (May 16) at the Bolton Street station.
