THERE are one or two Blackburn Rovers players who have relegation 'get-out' clauses in their contracts - but that does not apply to any of the five major signings made by Brian Kidd.

Matt Jansen, Lee Carsley, Ashley Ward, Jason McAteer and Keith Gillespie all had enough faith in the future at Ewood under Kidd not to insist on such measures.

It is common knowledge that Chris Sutton has an escape clause - at a price - and Stephane Henchoz could be in a similar position.

But Kidd will sit down and talk to all his squad after tomorrow's final game at Newcastle when the manager is determined to try and bow out of the Premiership with a win.

Chief executive John Williams said: "When that game is over Brian will be having discussions with his players.

"There is a clause in one or two players' contracts.

"But I am not going to discuss fine details of those. They are not always as straightforward as you might think."

Lee Carsley had already made it clear he would not be 'baling out' in the event of relegation and Jansen certainly has no regrets.

The reaction of the supporters on Wednesday night gave him a lift as he actually completed a full 90 minutes for the first time since his move to Ewood.

"We thought we'd won a cup, the fans were brilliant," he said. "And the club is still going to go places.

"I think we will bounce straight back into the Premiership next year and then we'll just take off.

"I have no regrets at all, this is a great club going places."

The chief executive admitted there would be comings and goings this summer and there will be financial support for Kidd in the market.

"If Brian Kidd wants resources, he can rest assured that Jack Walker will support him as he has done with all his previous managers," said Williams.

"I think there are bound to be players leaving and that there will be purchases during the summer.

"We will probably be the bookies' favourites to get back up, the eyes will be on us and it will still be an exciting place to play.

"It isn't the Premiership, let's not kid ourselves.

"But Brian will have a very good squad when we start the campaign on August 7."

Season-ticket prices have yet to be announced and he added: "We will have to make proper commercial judgments. I can tell you quite honestly that, over the last few weeks, we have considered one commercial strategy based on staying in the league and one not.

"It would be foolish not to have done that.

" We will not abuse the fans. We are going to try to run a business and take the fans' views into account at the same time." Meanwhile Rovers complete their fixtures at Newcastle with the usual scenario of several injuries to check.

David Dunn picked up a knock on Wednesday, Matt Jansen felt the effects of a full game and Stephane Henchoz is also struggling.

Kidd could even consider giving a start to a youngster like Martin Taylor but he stressed: "I want to go there with the strongest team we can field. We want to win, I do not believe there are any meaningless fixtures and I want the players to get into that habit.

"In one respect this is the start of next season for us and we want to do well."

Rovers seem likely to choose from: Filan, Croft, Henchoz, Peacock, Davidson, Dunn, Carsley, Wilcox, Gillespie, Ward, Jansen, Johnson, Duff, Broomes, Taylor, Flowers.

As we revealed in later editions last night, Kevin Davies and Oumar Konde will not be considered and have both been fined two weeks wages for an incident on Monday night/Tuesday morning.

They are believed to have been seen drinking in the early hours by Rovers fans in a Preston night club, the day before the crucial game against Manchester United.

A furious Kidd took immediate disciplinary action and made it clear he would not tolerate such unprofessionalism.

Laurent Charvet (knee injury) is out for Newcastle who will choose from: Harper, Given, Griffin, Barton, Domi, Dabizas, Beharall, Hughes, Lee, Speed, Hamann, Glass, Solano, Maric, Ketsbaia, Shearer, Ferguson, Andersson.

Jason McAteer, Lee Carsley and Damien Duff have all been named in the Republic of Ireland squad for a trio of international matches against Northern Ireland (May 29), Yugoslavia (June 5) and Macedonia (June 9).
