AN 18-year-old youth took umbrage when police, called to a disturbance, told him he was not old enough to drink and threatened to arrest him.

Carl Stoiles, who had been carrying a can of beer, was abusive, carried on swearing despite being warned and struggled when arrested, Burnley magistrates heard.

Stoiles of Gannow Lane, Burnley was fined £100 with £40 costs after admitting threatening words and behaviour.

Dermot Woodhead, defending, said the defendant had been at home minding his own business when the disturbance started.

He went out to see what was going on.

He took exception to the officer's suggestion he was not old enough to drink and an exchange of words followed.

Stoiles accepted he was wrong to speak to the officer in the way in which he did.
