Bamber Bridge FC manager Tony Greenwood said before his departure he was determined to bring new blood into the Irongate outfit - and had spoken to more than 15 different players in the process.

As yet, none have agreed to sign for the team, who are hoping to improve on last season's excellent run by achieving promotion.

Greenwood was looking at bringing in around three more players and believes he will have no problem achieving his target once the start of the new season arrives.

He said: "I think three or four players to add strength and depth to the team.

"Over the summer I have spoken to many payers but as yet I haven't clinched any deals.

"This is a funny time for us because many of the players are determined to see who else is interested before signing to us. Once they start to worry about being snapped up as the season approaches, I think we will see action."

Meanwhile, popular defender Wayne Maddock has agreed to stay on at the club, despite interest from Lancaster City.

Bamber Bridge have tough pre-season friendlies lined up against Manchester City, Everton and PNE before they kick off the new UniBond season in August, the fixtures for which were published this week.
