PNE boss David Moyes has been forced back into the transfer market once again after the shock departure of supersub Jason Harris.

Striker Harris, 23, has moved to Boothferry Park for £30,000 plus £10,000 depending on appearances.

The former Leyton Orient player is the first forward to leave the club since speculation began about the future of PNE's front line following the arrival of Steve Basham on a permanent contract.

It is thought that Harris, who signed for £25,000, was concerned that Basham's arrival might push him out of the first team frame altogether.

Moyes is thought to have been quite happy at the prospect of having four strikers to choose from - had Nicky Forster arrived it would have been five - so the departure of Harris, which leaves Moyes with just Nogan, Basham and Macken up front, is expected to push him back into the race to sign another new face before the season begins.

Speaking about the move, Moyes said: "Jason played exceptionally well for us last season, getting the goals as a sub.

"He scored at times when others weren't and was an invaluable member of the squad.

"He had a knack of coming up with the goods when they were desperately needed.

"He goes with our best wishes."

Harris's move was something of a surprise, as, just one week ago, the player promised to stay on to fight for a place in the first team.

It is now up to the remaining three players to prove their worth in pre-season training, which kicked off on Monday at Springfields.

They are just spending eight days training before their gruelling schedule of pre-season friendlies kicks off next Tuesday, July 12, at Chorley's Victory Park (7.30pm). Their other fixtures include:

Bamber Bridge (Wed, July 14, 7.30pm), Burscough (Thu, July 15, 7.30pm), Tranmere Rovers (Fri, July 16) Partick Thistle (Wed, July 21, 7.30pm), and Dunfermline (Sat, July 24).

Premiership giants Sunderland travel to Deepdale on Tuesday, July 29 for a 7.45pm kick-off, while the last game is at Bolton's Reebok stadium on Sunday, August 1, kick off 3pm.
