MR Eccles of Paraphernalia (Your Letters, Aug 20), that undisputed champion of the poorly paid and needy, is taking up arms on our behalf to fight the nasty council's decision to site a fun fair on The Rock.
I would like to thank Mr Eccles for his earlier campaigns on our behalf, which include objections to Bury Unemployed Workers Centre (just off The Rock), an organisation that offers welfare and employment rights advice and also runs a comprehensive service for the homeless.
Also Bury Young Person's Advice Centre (on The Rock) which gives advice and information to the borough's young people.
But wait a minute, what is this bastion of public spiritedness doing objecting to community organisations? Surely the two groups mentioned, along with the fair, have only one thing in common . . . they bring people on to The Rock who may not have disposable income to spend in Mr Eccles' shop.
Maybe he isn't such a champion of the people after all.
