WIGAN Council has commissioned a major opinion survey to find out what local residents think about their council.

A sample of 1,000 residents - large enough to be statistically accurate - will be asked their opinions on a wide variety of topics.

Leading independent market research company BMG (Bostock Marketing Group) will carry out the in-depth survey over a four week period starting August 28.

The research team will carry ID cards and the police have been notified where they are working.

The 30 minute interviews will allow a detailed picture to be built to find where the council's strengths and weaknesses lie.

And once the results have been analysed, they will be published towards the end of the year, so everyone can see what residents think about WMBC.

Council chiefs are stressing the reason for the survey is to identify what is most important to local people.

BMG is entirely independent and people are free to express their views in complete confidence.
