AN Atherton nursery has received top marks from Government education inspectors.

Atherton Pre-School Daycare, based at the Central Methodist Church Hall, which accommodates 68 children between two and five years old, was praised in every department by the Ofsted team on their second visit.

They reported that the programme for personal and social development is excellent, the approach to language and literacy, physical education, the creative programme and the provision for maths all very good.

And the quality of teaching, which is carefully monitored, is the over-riding strength of the nursery.

The staff have established a very good relationship with parents and carers, and parents have good opportunities to become involved as volunteers and committee members.

Since the last inspection progress has been good and the nursery has worked hard to raise funds to buy a computer, which provides the children, described as well bahaved, polite and well mannered, with the chance to use technology.

The nursery is run by Rosemary Woods, who said: "We are delighted with the report."
