AFTER 24 weeks of hard work and training, Morecambe may be about to witness the birth of at least five new businesses. The budding entrepreneurs have been trained and assisted by the resort's BEST Business Centre. Robert Harris, project leader, says "It's exciting to see businesses developing from no more than a germ of an idea to the point where they are about to become a commercial reality. It is essential for budding entrepreneurs to undertake sound formal business training"

The businesses include Janet Steel's 'Morecambe Bay Bonsai', Kevin Sutherland's 'Sutherland's Snax', Lorna Quinn's 'Lorna's Bookkeeping Services', Joan Wilson's 'Pennine Cleaning Services' and Paul Mayor's 'PACM's Management Services'. Ideas in the pipeline include Andy Speight's market stall selling sportswear, Sharron Greenhalgh's pet cemetery and John and Chrissy Foster's hotel business. Another course will start in October and anyone, unemployed and interested in starting a business should contact Robert Harris at the centre in Matthias St, Morecambe, on 582868.
