A PLANNED electoral review of St Helens has been put back by 12 months.
The Local Government Commission for England (LGC) has told St Helens Council that the review scheduled for 2001/2002 will now take place in 2002/2003.
The LGCs role is to make recommendations to the Government on whether there should be changes to the structure of local government, the boundaries of individual authority areas and their electoral arrangements such as the number of councillors electors should have to represent them in each ward.
In a letter to the council the Commission says it will have to give priority to areas with two-tier local government if it is to meet the Government timetable for reviews in shire districts.
The letter adds: "The Commission therefore intends to defer the start of reviews in the Metropolitan districts in Merseyside to 2002/2003."
