AN association to promote the interests of people in Fernhill, Bury, is now up and running.

About 40 people formally adopted a constitution for the new Fernhill Tenants' and Residents' Association.

The association's third public meeting was held at the Citadel. Two community police officers attended, along with local councillors Dorothy Cassidy, Sue Arnall and Winston Ramsey.

Mr Alan Marshall was elected chairman.

A question-and-answer session took place, with police and councillors responding to residents' concerns.

Police representatives provided numbers for emergency and non-emergency calls.

Councillors were asked if action could be taken to prevent refuse from a tip blowing into nearby streets.

The meeting heard that Fernhill is to benefit following approval of Bury Council's Single Regeneration Budget bid.

Association officers hope to invite a local authority officer to a future meeting to discuss the implications for Fernhill.

The new group hopes to meet every month.
