I APOLOGISE unreservedly to Mrs Pat Jones, of Hapton (Letters, September 2).
I do know the area and were I fortunate enough to live there, I would not want to see it change.
I was approached as a member of planning and development control committee only by objectors to the planning application for bungalows on the private land in Hapton which had been leased to the parish council and, unfortunately, not by any residents in favour of the development.
In many cases, new development has caused considerable problems for existing residents.
I congratulate the parish council and the residents who have contributed time and funds to make and keep this area so attractive.
Please accept my apology, Mrs Jones. I appreciate and respect your point of view. I can assure you it has been 'taken on board.'
COUNCILLOR CAROLE BARBER, Albert Street, Burnley.
