Pete Oliver runs the rule over Preston North End

KELHAM O'Hanlon familiarised himself with the sight of claret and blue shirts bearing down on him in mid-week, just in case the veteran keeper is called into action at Deepdale tomorrow.

The former Middlesbrough, Rotherham, Carlisle and Preston number one is now assistant manager at North End.

But the 37-year-old keeper still keeps his hand in in case of emergencies and one of those could crop up against Burnley in the Second Division derby.

With David Lucas suspended, Teuvo Moilanen will take over the gloves. And with boss David Moyes opting to name a goalkeeping substitute, O'Hanlon, who played against Burnley reserves on Wednesday night, is likely to be on the bench.

While Preston have been forced to juggle their goalkeeping resources, Bunley will go to Deepdale with one of the early season's most consistent performers between their posts.

Paul Crichton has barely put a foot wrong this season and, helped by a much improved defence, has conceded only two goals from open play in six league games.

According to statistics from Opta, Crichton has saved 81 per cent of the shots he has faced, with 12 coming from inside the penalty area and five from outside. He will be just as pleased with the figures that show he has a 89 per cent success rate in catching crosses, with just one spilled so far, according to the people at Opta.

His long-kicking accuracy stands at 38 per cent but Crichton is yet to misplace a short kick or throw-out.

Those statistics bear out his current form and another solid showing from Crichton tomorrow will go a long way to helping Burnley extend their decent start.

The Opta facts also show up some interesting comparisons between strikers Andy Payton and Kurt Nogan, who could also have a big say over the destiny of the points.

Payton's three goals have come from four shots on target and five off, while Preston number nine Nogan has found the net twice from five goalbound efforts and three off target.

Both have a 64 per cent success rate from passes, but Payton has been more productive from the flanks with 60 per cent of his five crosses reaching their target, compared with just two crosses from Nogan who has found a team-mate once.
