THE man with a song in his heart has stepped down after quarter of a century with the nationally renowned Haydock Male Voice Choir.

But Frank Glover's involvement as a chorister reaches further back than that, beginning with his days with Grange Park Male Voice Choir, under the baton of the legendary Peter Knowles.

Another choir diehard, Alan Winstanley of Toll Bar, now writes in to pay tribute to Frank's sterling service, recalling the time when he himself sang in the Grange Park baritone section while Frank "pulled out all the stops" as a tenor.

The enthusiasm never left the singing veteran who leaves yet another vacancy in the local ranks.

"We need more tenors in our choirs from around the district," explains Alan, "whether it be Haydock, Parkside or the St Helens and the Pilkington Choral groups."

And in wishing Frank a happy retirement, Alan signs off: "We need more of his kind; so come on you young fellows, join us and experience the joy of a good sing."

ANYONE interested could drop him a line at 62 Stafford Road, Toll Bar, St Helens.
