A TYLDESLEY headmaster, who has spent his whole career at one school, has retired.

Mr Allan Hilton has taken early retirement from the new St George's Central School on health grounds.

The former Leigh Grammar School pupil went to St George's as a class teacher in the early seventies and became deputy head before moving up to the top post.

A school spokesperson said: "Allan will always be remembered for his hard work and commitment to the school and its links with the church, but I believe above all he will be remembered for his love, care and concern for the many children who passed through his school.

"Allan gave his usual, valuable 110 per cent commitment to the setting up of the plans for the building of the new school and the arrangements for the amalgamation of the former Central and St George's School."

Anyone who wishes to contribute to a retirement gift should contact teacher, Mrs Janet Heywood, at school.
