A DONATION of £180,000 to Burnley Health Care NHS Trust will enable an image intensifier and ultrasound equipment to be purchased.

At the annual general meeting, finance director David Meakin announced that last year the trust received about £250,000 from charitable donations and legacies.

This was spent on patient comforts, staff welfare and amenities and medical equipment.

In his report to the meeting he said the trust had met its key financial targets. Income and expenditure had been maintained in balance, external financing had been met with an underspend and the waiting list target for March 31 had been met.

He said: "A good result in very difficult circumstances and our thanks go to the staff who made it possible."
