THE simmering dispute between a disaffected Labour Party member and his political leaders looks set to explode as party bosses seek to have the man expelled from the organisation.

Michael Jackson of Hest Bank caused a storm among some party activists in the run-up to the recent local government elections when he was accused of fly-posting leaflets attacking the former Labour council leader Stanley Henig.

MP Hilton Dawson has written to Jeanette Gardner, secretary of the Morecambe & Lunesdale constituency party about Mr Jackson's alleged behaviour and called for strong action against him and it is understood that Mr Jackson has been called to appear before national party bosses in October... but Mr Jackson is not going quietly.

He has written a strong, open letter attacking the MP and has also written to the council's solicitor to question whether officers should be allowed to hold politically active roles while working at the town hall - this follows the publication of a statement by a planning officer claiming he followed Mr Jackson around on election day tearing down the offending posters. Mr Jackson believes that any officer holding such positions could compromise the civic duties of public servants and has asked the borough solicitor for an explanation.

In the past Mr Jackson claimed that he was "Labour through and through," but that he was unhappy with the leadership being offered at the time by Mr Henig.

Mr Jackson's letter to Mr Dawson will be printed in full in next week's Citizen.
