IF Citizen readers find themselves ailing more from the Marathon Bug than the Millennium Bug, then I urge them to apply for a place in the 2000 Flora London Marathon and join the NSPCC in putting an end to cruelty to children.

On April 16 more than 30,000 people will experience the unique atmosphere of the marathon.

It is a race which attracts everyone from world class athletes to complete beginners.

Whatever your ability and whatever your finish time, if you join the NSPCC marathon team you will be doing far more than running a marathon.

You will be helping the NSPCC's vital work to protect children suffering the pain of abuse and you will be contributing to the NSPCC's vision - CRUELTY TO CHILDREN MUST STOP.

Since I became patron in 1997 the NSPCC marathon meam has raised more than £1million for projects dedicated to preventing abuse and suffering.

Every penny raised will make a difference.

For further information contact the NSPCC Marathon hotline on (0171) 825 2647, or (0171) 825 2663.

The deadline for applications is October 21, so fill out your application form today.

We look forward to hearing from you and thank you in advance for your support.

Steve Ovett,

NSPCC Marathon Patron.
