NORTH West Water has handed two reservoirs back to St Helens Council to complete its bid to restore a historic park to its former glory.
The Paddock and Leg o' Mutton reservoirs in Taylor Park contain only drainage water. They haven't been used by North West Water for several years, but are a recreational attraction and the waters are fished by local anglers.
Now it is hoped both will become an important public amenity under the council's plan to refurbish the park with grant aid from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Originally the grounds of Eccleston Hall, Taylor Park's history dates back to the 14th century. It was given to the town in 1893, but the reservoirs became the property of the former North West Water Authority in the early 1970s.
