PEOPLE from all walks of life in Blackburn and Darwen met to discuss their visions of the 21st century at a ground-breaking conference at Ewood.

Blackburn with Darwen Council hosted a conference for delegates from the private and voluntary sector as well as community groups, the police, health authority and careers service to find out what local people wanted to see in the future.

And councillors heard that a crackdown on crime and disorder were at the top of the agenda, followed by a thriving economy with more and better jobs.

Peter Butterfield, editor of the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, led discussions about what readers thought would improve their quality of life, based on responses to a questionnaire printed in the paper on Monday.
