THE oldest and youngest residents of a Pendle parish will receive millennium mugs which organisers say will become collector's items.

Reedley Hallows Parish Council spent around £500 on 200 special mugs which will be presented to local children at Christmas.

But with a few mugs left over, the search is now on for the parish's oldest citizen so they can have one as well.

The china mugs feature the parish's coat of arms and an explanation why the mug was produced.

Chairman Alan Binns, who thought up the idea, said: "They're not just ordinary mugs. I think lots of people will want to put them in a cabinet and keep them as mementoes.

"We sent details with the annual parish newsletter and invited people to apply for them. Most of the 200 went but there was the odd one or two left so we decided to give them to the oldest residents. A 97-year-old lady has already been nominated but we want to hear from anyone else who thinks they qualify." Mr Binns can be contacted on 01282 425509.
