BOOK enthusiasts can take part in drop-in sessions aimed at promoting literature.

The sessions will take place at the Platform Gallery, Clitheroe, on October 9, from 10am to 1pm and 2 to 5pm. The event is part of the New Pages scheme set up in Ribble Valley by the organisers of the annual Lancaster Literature Festival.

The scheme, funded by the National Lottery, Ribble Valley Council and the Lancashire Library Service, offers creative writing workshops, book discussion sessions and regular group activities.

Clitheroe woman Maureen Fenton and Lancaster writer and performer Caroline Gilfillan are the New Pages team for Ribble Valley.

Maureen, a former press officer for the Central Office is a volunteer with Ribble Valley Talking Newspaper. Writer Caroline has worked in education and publishing, and is a singer songwriter and runs music workshops.

Project manager Sue Parish said: "People are invited to pop in and find out what New Pages can offer them. They can try short, creative writing sessions - beginners welcome - or chat about books with Maureen. It's fun, free and friendly"
