VOLUNTEERS for East Lancashire Deaf Society's Bridging the Gap Project will attend an evening of awards at Accrington Town Hall on Friday to thank them for their hard work.

The Bridging the Gap Project aims to diminish the isolation felt by deaf and hard of hearing children and provides support for their families by allowing volunteers to give them supply information about deaf issues. The project, previously funded by the UK Council on Deafness, recently received a £160,000 funding boost from the National Lottery Charities Board .

Chantelle Thomson, of Bridging the Gap said, "We appreciate all the funding we have received and all the effort that the volunteers have put in to the project. We have made a positive difference to the lives of deaf children".
