THE last Armistice Day of the century was marked in towns across East Lancashire with a solemn two minutes silence.
In Blackburn, council workers stopped work and shoppers stood in reflection as flares were fired to mark the start of the silence.
Civic dignitaries including the deputy mayor of Blackburn with Darwen Coun Florence Oldfield gathered on the town hall steps during the two minute period of observation.
More than 300 people gathered at Town Gate in Great Harwood for the two minute Remembrance silence. The Mayor and Mayoress of Hyndburn, Coun Bernard Dawson and Frances Molloy, attended the event.
Paul Dunn, the legion's poppy organiser said: "We must thank everybody who was at Town Gate to observe the silence, it was an excellent turnout."
In Clitheroe town councillors and members of various other organisations joined town Mayor Coun Alan Yearing to observe the silence outside the castle gates.
